Fall 2025:
Current States of Being: Exploring AI's Influence on Memory, Identity, and Creation

Artificial intelligence weaves through our daily lives, entangling technology, memory, and cultural identity in both seen and unseen ways. Current States of Being brings together an art exhibition at the Brush Art Gallery of works by three artists—Danielle Ezzo, Ameera Kawash, and Eryk Salvaggio—who critically engage with AI as both a tool and a subject, unraveling its biases,
possibilities, and entanglements with history.

For Women and Girls Only. Reshaping Jewish Orthodoxy through the Arts in the Digital Age.

Have you glimpsed the mesmerizing music videos of ultra-Orthodox women celebrities, Bracha Jaffe and Devorah Schwartz, captivating over half a million viewers on YouTube? Or have the whispers of Rachel’s Place, the clandestine Broadway production in Brooklyn, exclusively produced and attended by women and girls, reached your ears? This enduring lack of awareness persists because these spaces intentionally remain veiled in secrecy and privacy, and the prevailing image, as portrayed in successful productions like Netflix's Unorthodox, perpetuates the notion of the religious woman as uncreative and subservient to male authority. For Women and Girls Only, written by anthropologist Jessica Roda challenges these narratives and presents the hidden artistic worlds as well as the experience of Hasidic women who now perform for a public audience. By unveiling these vibrant artistic expressions, Roda invites readers to rethink assumptions about creativity, agency, and tradition in ultra-Orthodox communities, demonstrating how women are central agents in reshaping religiosity both within their communities and in the broader liberal world.

Fandoms and Forests: Crafting New Worlds - A Guest Artist Residency with Dan Caffrey

How can genre fiction such as horror and sci-fi be used to shape our understanding of the environment? Playwright, podcaster, and critic Dan Caffrey explores this question in "Fandoms and Forests," a thought-provoking talk that bridges the gap between playwriting, pop culture, and ecological storytelling.

A 3-5 day residency with Brooklyn-based playwright, published pop culture critic, podcaster, and musician Dan Caffrey to coincide with University Theatre’s fall production of Dan Caffrey’s play Matawan. During the proposed residency, Caffrey will participate in rehearsals, attend classes, meet with students and faculty, and present an artist’s talk that explores his multifaceted career as a storyteller, playwright, and author.
